Tom Smith enters his fourth season as head athletic trainer of the Orlando Magic. He joined the Magic in July of 2006, after spending the previous six seasons as the assistant athletic trainer for the Atlanta Hawks. Prior to joining the Hawks, Smith was the head athletic trainer at St. Paul Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota for six years (1994-2000).
Smith’s career in athletic training began as a graduate student trainer with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 1990-91 season. From 1992-95, he served as head athletic trainer and travel coordinator for the Rapid City Thrillers of the CBA. Smith then worked one season (1995-96) with the IHL’s Minnesota Moose, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Paul Academy.
A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-PES & CES) National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) and a member of the National Basketball Athletic Training Association (NBATA). Smith has assisted the training staffs at many different sporting events, including the Magic’s summer league team in 1999, several NBA Pre-Draft camps and the USOC Sports Medicine program.
Smith has a B.S. in sports studies and bible from Northwestern College (MN) and earned his master’s in sports medicine from the U.S. Sports Academy. He was an eight-time national championship qualifier for both the cross country and track teams at Northwestern and still enjoys an occasional triathlon.
Born on August 26, 1965 in Long Prairie, Minnesota, Smith is on the Board of Directors for the Exponential Fund, a charitable organization established to support student-athletes in their pursuit of higher education. Smith has traveled to Ivory Coast, West Africa where he and his parents lived from 1978-79, and he also spent two summers in the Philippines. Tom and his wife, Lisa, have three children, Grant (11), Kailee Jo (8) and Jackson (5).

Keon Weise enters his sieventh season as Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Orlando Magic. In this role, he is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in all daily operations of the athletic training room. Originally, he worked as an intern for the Magic before earning a full-time position following the 2002-03 season.
Prior to joining the Magic, Weise attended Graduate School at Temple University where he received a Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training. While at Temple he also worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the University. As an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology while working as a student athletic trainer.
Weise is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, licensed in the state of Florida, along with being a Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. A native of Philadelphia, PA he is an avid fan of the Eagles who enjoys traveling to games in his spare time. Also, he is an active member in the league’s Read to Achieve Program. Weise is single and lives in Orlando.
