John Sabol

Jay Sabol begins his second season as Head Athletic Trainer/Travel Coordinator for the HEAT. He has spent the last 18 seasons with Miami, including the last 13 as Assistant Athletic Trainer. In his current capacity, he oversees the training staff to keep the HEAT healthy during the regular season, postseason and off-season. He is also responsible for handling all of the travel arrangements for the team throughout the season. Sabol previously also served as the team’s equipment manager and assistant strength and conditioning coach, and served as a team attendant for his first five years with the organization.

Sabol was born and raised in Miami and graduated from Florida International University in 1992 with a master’s degree in exercise physiology. As Assistant Athletic Trainer, Sabol covered basketball and soccer for FIU until 1995 when he joined the HEAT. He is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine and licensed by the State of Florida Department of Health.

Sabol and his wife, Michelle, enjoy fishing and boating in their free time.

Assistant Athletic Trainer
David Parks
College:  University of Massachesetts (B.S.)

David Parks enters his second year with the HEAT organization as a full-time staff member after spending the last 12 years as a part-time Athletic Trainer Assistant.

In addition to his duties with the HEAT’s athletic training staff, Parks served as Sports Medicine Coordinator at the UHZ Sports Medicine Institute after being promoted from athletic trainer in 1996.

While at UHZ, Parks was the Head Athletic Trainer for the Arena Football League’s Miami Hooters during the 1994 and 1995 seasons. He also previously served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1992.

Parks graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in exercise science and went on to earn a master’s of science degree in athletic training at Illinois State University. Parks, a Lawrence, MA native, is single and resides in Coconut Grove.


Rey Jaffet
College:  University of Puerto Rico (B.S.)
Florida International University (M.S.)
Years in NBA:  1
Rey Jaffet enters his second year with the HEAT organization as a full-time staff member. Jaffet brings his 26 years of rehabilitation and sports medicine experience to the organization which includes assisting the HEAT with the rehabilitation of its players over the last 12 years.

In addition to his past duties with the HEAT’s athletic training staff, Jaffet served as Director of Clinical Services, Administrator and Market Manager at Select Medical Corporation, formerly HealthSouth, where he handled patient care as well as management responsibilities.

Before joining HealthSouth, Jaffet was the Head Athletic Trainer for Florida International University for 12 years, from 1984 through 1996. Prior to his tenure at FIU, Jaffet was the Head Athletic Trainer for the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League for two seasons.

Jaffet graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in physical education/biology and went on to earn a degree in physical therapy and a master’s of science degree in physical education from FIU.

Jaffet, a native of Puerto Rico, is married to his wife Grace and resides in Miami with their two children, Rey Jr. and Rafael.
